Free Habakkuk Bible Study
Habakkuk was a righteous man surrounded by religious apostasy, and societal immorality. His soul was grieved by it and he had a hard time squaring what he knew about God with what he felt God was allowing to continue all around him.
As Christians we are perpetually a godly minority in the midst of a godless majority. Every day sees the advancement of immorality, idolatry, apostasy and an ever-increasing hostility toward God, his holiness, and his people. What are we to make of these things? Where is God in the midst of all of this? How should we respond to it all? These are the kinds of questions that Habakkuk brought before the Lord. The Lord’s response to Habakkuk powerfully transformed his attitude, and has the potential to do the very same for us.
This material was originally worked through in only four weeks but is better suited for a longer study. It is presented here in five sections but could easily be stretched beyond that. It is designed to be worked through in a group as the discussion questions provide opportunity for helpful conversations.
In each chapter you will find a series of observation questions designed to guide an inductive approach to study. This will help you understand the text before you attempt to make personal applications via the discussion questions. One approach might be to work through the observation questions on your own before coming together as a group to collectively work through the discussion questions.
Regardless of how you decide this material is best used for your purposes, we hope that this book can, in some measure, build you up in the faith as you seek to do as much as you can, for the glory of Jesus, with all that he has entrusted to you, as you await his return.
